My Most Accurate Reign Gauge

Luke 20:1-2 (NASB) And it came about on one of the days while He was teaching the people in the temple and preaching the gospel, that the chief priests and the elders confronted Him, and they spoke, saying to Him, “Tell us by what authority You are doing these things, or who was the one who gave You this authority.” The men asking this question were not really wanting to know the truth. They merely wanted to discredit Jesus and…

Spiritually Fit

Ephesians 2:19-22 (NASB) So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and are of God’s household, having been built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the corner stone, in whom the whole building, being fitted together is growing into a holy temple in the Lord; in whom you also are being built together into a dwelling of God in the Spirit. My husband and I…

You Do Not Know

And it came about, when the days were approaching for His ascension, that He resolutely set His face to go to Jerusalem; and He sent messengers on ahead of Him. And they went, and entered a village of the Samaritans to make arrangements for Him. And they did not receive Him, because He was journeying with His face toward Jerusalem. And when His disciples James and John saw this, they said, “Lord, do You want us to command fire to…

Thrive

For a few weeks now I have been aware that I would be sharing one of the most difficult chapters of my life with you. Usually when I write a devotion, I change the names of the people in it. I cannot bring myself to do that this time. My precious grandbaby’s real name was Aeva Novia, a name that means ‘heroic sweetheart’. The name fit her perfectly throughout the course of her long and painful ordeal. Now Aeva is…

Uncompromised Faith

In 2 Kings we read about the life of Hezekiah. Of Hezekiah, the scriptures say, “He trusted in the Lord, the God of Israel; so that after him there was none like him among all the kings of Judah, nor among those who were before him. For he clung to the Lord; he did not depart from following Him, but kept His commandments, which the Lord had commanded Moses.” (2 Kings 18:5-6 NASB). This very godly king matured in his…

Assuming the Worst

Please read all of 2nd Kings chapter 6:24 -7:20 7:1 Then Elisha said, “Listen to the word of the Lord; thus says the Lord, “Tomorrow about this time a measure of fine flour shall be sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, in the gate of Samaria.” v.2 And the royal officer on whose hand the king was leaning answered the man of God and said, “Behold, if the Lord should make windows in heaven,…

The Ax Head Has To float

2nd Kings 6:1-7(NIV) The company of prophets said to Elisha, “Look, the place where we meet with you is too small for us. Let us go to the Jordan, where each of us can get a pole; and let us build a place there for us to live.” And he said, “Go.” Then one of them said, “Won’t you go with your servants?” “I will,” Elisha replied. And he went with them. They went to the Jordan and began to…

Sting

My husband long hoped our farm would become a land of milk and honey. Thus far we do not own any cattle but my husband is now officially a beekeeper. Beekeeping is far more complicated than I had imagined. We have learned much about beekeeping on the internet and from Pat, a qualified friend. There are however some lessons that just come from experience. We learned one such lesson when we purchased bees for our second hive. It is best to…

Blown Away

Haggai 1:7 Thus says the Lord of hosts, “Consider your ways! v.9 You look for much, but behold it comes to little; when you bring it home, I blow it away. Why?” declares the Lord of hosts, “Because of My house which lies desolate, while each of you runs to his own house.” (NASB) Luke 11:42 “…Woe to you Pharisees, because you give a tenth of your mint, rue and all kinds of garden herbs, but you neglect justice and…

Enduring For Good Reason

Our world is experiencing a seemingly insurmountable crisis. People still face their normal trials on top of those presented by the virus. Many are struggling with discouragement, depression, and suicidal thoughts. When we hurt, relief from horrid circumstances is exactly what we desire, so we should pray infaith fervently. If relief is what is best, then relief is exactly what God will give. If He does not say “yes”, He has an excellent reason for saying “No.” What we sometimes…
